Marieke van Vugt is an associate professor in the Bernoulli Institute of Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Groningen. In her lab, she tries to understand when, how, and why we mind wander, and what are the cognitive mechanisms underlying contemplative practices. In addition, she has spearheaded research on the practice of monastic debate in collaboration with the Sera Jey Monastery Science Center.
